DRET Sport Hosts First Boccia Competition at Eastfield Primary Academy
On 21st January 2025, DRET Sport hosted its inaugural Boccia competition at Eastfield Primary Academy. Boccia, an inclusive sport designed to encourage participation from all students, involves rolling coloured balls towards a white jack ball. The winner is the team whose coloured ball is closest to the jack after all rounds have been completed.
The competition saw the participation of four DRET Primary Academies: Cedar Road Primary School, Kings Heath Primary Academy, Malcolm Arnold Prep School, and the host school, Eastfield Academy. Students formed teams of four and played against each other in a series of rounds, with each team competing in four ends per round. The event provided students with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their strategic thinking, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
After two hours of exciting and competitive play, Eastfield Primary Academy secured an impressive second-place finish. The competition was a true celebration of fun, healthy participation, and fair play, with each team showcasing excellent cooperation and respect for one another.
To commemorate the students' efforts, medals and certificates were awarded to all participants. Each certificate was signed by David Ross, the founder of the Trust, recognising the students' dedication and hard work throughout the event.
The Boccia competition not only provided students with the chance to showcase their skills but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sport. It was a day that celebrated teamwork, perseverance, and the spirit of friendly competition. DRET Sport looks forward to hosting more events that promote inclusivity and physical activity across the Trust’s network of schools.
